Instructor:Patrick Kastner, PhD

Software:Python/Figma/Html/Notebook
The Pedestrian Environment Index (PEI) addresses a critical gap in urban planning by providing a unified, data-driven metric to evaluate and compare walkability across cities. By integrating geospatial data and key factors such as land use diversity, infrastructure density, and commercial activity, the PEI offers actionable insights for policymakers, urban planners, and the public. Our project not only enhances transparency in how walkability is measured but also develops tools, such as a public web application, to enable effective analysis and comparisons. Moving forward, the continued refinement, scalability, and broader application of the PEI will support healthier, more sustainable, and pedestrian-friendly urban environments worldwide. This project paves the way for data-informed decision-making in urban design, fostering cities that prioritize walkability and improve the quality of life for their residents.website link:https://vip-pei-app-2.onrender.com/
